If any dev reads it, I know its not a bug, but it dosent make sense. Ranged Magic can follow me, thats understandable, but arrows? It makes dodging and jumping very useless for a ranger, you just stand on your spot and "trade" arrows with ur ranged enemy. And for meele it just sucks, you can't run up to him without getting a few arrows stuck in you, even if you roll nonstop.

Does anyone aggre that arrows should be redesign so that they go in a straight line or at least don't do 90\180 turns (well if it will go completely straight it would srsly nerf the ranged enemies, but then again, ranged weapons are never considered to be very accurate in reality...)

Totally agree, I think it's a bit retarded too.
Anyway, ALWAYS AUTO-AIM MODE for magic was partially (yes, *partially*) fixed in german 1.02 patch and these fixes must be included into benelux-version as well.

Also, I think this thread should go into Technical problemssection, since it is more like bug report for me (2mods).
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 17/12/09 09:02 AM
Agreed. This stuff really hurts against Amdusias, forcing me to kill him in melee even when playing as a ranger myself.
Posted By: Zomgnome Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 18/12/09 09:38 AM
I know this is a tech thing, but its not really a bug so I din't know where to put it. I'm glad magic was a bit balanced, but they didn't touch arrows while they were at it? I hope the devs read it it can make combat much more fun, I always enjoy the early part more beacous theres no ranged enemies and doging\ rolling makes sense, but later its ruined...

Please more ppl comment so it will draw Larians attention!

Didn't played game YET but I've seen this heat-seeking-missile-arrows in other games and it's just, well, it's hilarious and stupid at the same time.
Posted By: Merlanni Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 18/12/09 08:18 PM
Try to rush your dual wielding character uphill at a certain tower. Lost more than half of my hitpoints before the first swing. A magical arrow, yes, normal arrows, no.
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 19/12/09 04:47 PM
OK, this is something that really needs to get fixed.

I am playing the game as a Ranger now and when enemy Rangers are starting to use Explosive Arrows in Orobas fjords (doing 250+ damage when hit) it makes the game impossible to play if you can't dodge arrows like this.
Posted By: Merlanni Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 19/12/09 09:55 PM
A certain levelboss made the mistake to come towards my melee character. If it stayed at a distance Charname would be dying until uninstall.
Posted By: Zomgnome Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 20/12/09 07:18 AM
Doesn't look like any dev sees this. Maybe we should open a thread in tech section? It seems that every class is really annoyed by enemy archers but not enough ppl comment about it...
Posted By: Kein Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 20/12/09 11:42 AM
1. Better to just move this thread.
2. The fact that devs didn't reply - means only that they didn't reply. That's all.
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 20/12/09 03:54 PM
Funnily enough, if one returns 5 levels later to areas with lots of archers they do exactly 0 damage...
Posted By: Nastilon Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 07/01/10 04:50 PM
I just found this thread, was there ever a response by the devs about this issue?

Also if you are more than 5 levels above the arrow shooters, you also get 0 xp for killing them. Who cares then that they do 0 damage.

Posted By: sin Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 07/01/10 06:37 PM
Yes the arrows definitely need fixing. What's the point of having a dodge if they cannot be dodged???
Posted By: marcusdavidus Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 07/01/10 07:01 PM
dvs play to much apache comanche :P dragon fights looks like apache game and auto aiming arrows? wtf never ever see uch thing in any rpg this was quitte funny when i dodge all magic but wtf cannot dodge arows cuz they auto aim :P

The arrows are stupid, only up-side is that they dont go through objects like trees and stuff so you can use the terrain to your advantage in some places.
Posted By: Dragonien Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 07/01/10 08:11 PM
I really think Enemy archers need to be rebalanced... Normal archers, no threat. Archers with explosive arrows. Instant death. I forget exactly where, i think it was in the hall of echoes or somewhere. you have a fight against, MINIMUM. 3 archers. all of them use explosive arrows. each arroe does 250 damage. I had stacked vit, and had almost 600 hp at the time. they could literally insta kill me as soon as the fight began. the ONLY way i won, is because of sheer luck, of them Not using the arrows, and me able to kill them before they did
Posted By: Urukhai Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 08/01/10 05:05 PM
I completely agree, this heat-seeking arrow thing is completely ridiculous and annoying as hell. It just makes the game unfair and too difficult.
..You could atleast made a rocket launcher for archers, otherwise these following arrows are stupid.
Posted By: Nastilon Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 08/01/10 06:50 PM
Yea please, please release an update or some option where enemies don't have heat seeking arrows. It totally ruins the immersion in the game when you walk around a rock and 3 guys insta-kill you, or you survive that but try to dodge/roll away and then they shoot you like you are some retarded kid rolling on the ground that they are kicking over and over.

Posted By: ElektroDragon Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 08/01/10 10:32 PM
I've been able to dodge magic attacks from goblins just fine on the 360. Are you saying that I can dodge magic but not arrows?
Posted By: marcusdavidus Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 08/01/10 10:36 PM
yep exacly arrows will chase u anyware u go heat seeking or whatever rotfl
u can dodge any magic easy ( maye ius harder to dodge magic misles but is still posible) but u never ever dodge arrows u cna hide over trees rocks whatever but no way to dodge it on open field
Posted By: ElektroDragon Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 08/01/10 11:23 PM
Guess I'd better beef up my Ranged Resistance then. smile
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 01:10 AM
Ranged resistance doesn't help a bit when 4 rangers hit you with explosive arrows. Only chance is returning 5 levels later. :P
Posted By: marcusdavidus Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 01:30 AM
virumor hmm where a hell u find mobs that shoot explosives? i finish game 2 times and never find such mobs .. hmm strange things are with all this diferent patch/lang versions rly freeking strange
diferences
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 01:44 AM
Bandit cave in Orobas fjords has 3-4 rangers in first area that use explosive arrows.
Posted By: marcusdavidus Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 01:54 AM
they dont use that on me onyl freeking stunn spam that is rly evill they make 0 damage to me but whole fight is 10 times longer that it can be if they dont stunn u non stop

From a design perspective it actually makes a lot of sense. Bear in mind that most crpg's start out as turn-based scenarios where "dodging" is a numerical stat based more around a combination of dexterity and chance rather than timing. For all its appearances as a real-time game, it still utilizes a random number generator with stat modifiers for determining to-hit and damage. It looks corny, I know, but from a design perspective it makes sense. Otherwise they'd have to change the entire battle system to utilize model collision detection in real-time on top of a random number generator to determine to-hit and damage, which is certainly doable as an early design decision but not something I can see being a simple "fix."

If they did, though, then there's no reason why they couldn't remove a ranger's inability to keep moving while firing. Coming from playing a Ranger in Aion, this was a bit jarring to me at first when my usual approach wasn't working cuz my idiot character would stand in place while shooting. For all that "training" the player characters go through, multitasking wasn't high on the list of priorities, since a ranger should be perfectly capable of firing a bow while moving around, even if it applies a significant penalty to to-hit for doing so. I'd happily take a hit to my character's to-hit if it meant I wasn't a sitting duck every time I'd want to fire back.
Posted By: Zomgnome Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 02:43 PM
I don't think it would be hard for them to make dodging mechanics for arrows possible, since its already implanted with magical abilities. Besides this is an action rpg and not a turn based one... However I do agree about not being able to shot arrows while running/ moving, but it is sensible design choice and a realistic one if you'll think about it. The main problem with following arrows is that they stun.

D2 combat is usually you against many opponents (4-6?), while it is pretty fast and easy to get one of their hp bars to 0, they also do quite a lot of damdge on you since they are a group, so if your stunned from arrows you might lose hp very fast before you kill them. In some areas with strong opponents you can die just as fast as you can kill them...

pyrion wtf ur talking aboute : i CAN DODGE MAGIC misles but i CANNOT dodge BOW ARROWS this make totally no sense at all i agree that dodge magic can be hard cuz hmm this is magic but arrows ?
some kind of magic bullet teory ? maybe JFK die to D2 magic homing ARROW? this arrows make no sense at all
Posted By: Dragonien Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 09:46 PM
The dude in the hall of echoes, the one that you have to force out of dragonform. he used explosive arrows onme too. worse. his did 500 damage. he one shotted me, 7 times in a row. before, by sheer luck, he DIDNT cast explosive arrow on me, and drew his melee weapon instead
Posted By: virumor Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 10:19 PM
He should shoot your creature if you've summoned it. Making the battle easy.
Posted By: Dragonien Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 09/01/10 11:51 PM
int he hall of echoes... BEFORE you have the battle tower
Posted By: Pyrion Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 10/01/10 12:03 AM
In the hall of echoes before you have the battle tower? Ooh, sounds like someone went Sequence Breaking!

...and just how the hell did you manage that?
Posted By: Dragonien Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 10/01/10 03:29 AM
er wait... Whatever the temple is you go to so that you do the dragon trial things. you know, where you have to do that ritual to turn the dragon dude back into a human and kill him
Posted By: Zomgnome Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 10/01/10 07:17 AM
Oh thats Maxos tower then... But what your talking about is just another issue this game has, its easy to die just as its easy to kill, I had many situations in which I could be dead after 5-6 sec unless I hide, come close to the enemies, and use some op magic spell (think it was called Inferno), even thou I was actually a warrior build...
Posted By: ACSS Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 10/01/10 07:44 AM
Not all magic spells can be dodge, as well as not all enemy ranger using arrows. From what I saw, only human and skeleton rangers are using arrow as range attack which is close to impossible to dodge. You might get the arrow miss if you are right just beside a huge rock where you take cover behind the obstacles. As for magic, I found magic blast guarantee hit my toon, as well as some fireball alike spell from goblin which have homing capabilities too. The spell is very noticeable as its hell lot faster compare to goblin mage usually range attack.

Five to six seconds? Lemme tell you about my first death. I was playing a Ranger and I got bumrushed by four drunk Seekers in a barroom brawl that lasted half a second (one of them rolled a 20 on his FIRST HIT D:<), not long enough for the script to bring in the Seekers' commander to stop the fight and save my sorry ass from triggering. Now, I'm not familiar with the battle system they use in this game and I frankly don't care, but if they utilized some sort of standard battle system that made a lick of sense, they'd at very least have circumstance penalties applied for being completely plastered, and therefore unable to hit the broad side of a barn even if they were standing inside of it.

That, right there, seems to me like a circumstance that justifies complaining about a broken battle system. Why do arrows follow you? Auto-targeting. It's why you don't have to actually AIM. It's assumed by the battle system that you've got perfect aim, and barring anything getting in the way of your shot, it's going to hit. Even if your target sidesteps, autotargeting will make the shot hit no matter what (try firing arrows at evading wyverns for an example of just how utterly absurd an extreme this can be taken to).

I'd say the only way you will be able to avoid getting hit by an arrow is to put something between you and the arrow in the fraction of a second between the arrow being fired and the arrow hitting you. It's much easier with magic missiles cuz, obviously, they travel a lot slower. Arrows, in this context, are the medieval equivalent of bullets, so chances are you will NOT be dodging them anytime soon.
Posted By: Zomgnome Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 10/01/10 03:20 PM
Arrows might travel fast (ofc much much slower then a bullet), but they are not fired fast. Dodging arrows is a very sensible request. Even thou that part almost killed me as where (ganked by the seekers), I didn't expect to win them anyway, its still 3 (or 4?) seekers which are supposed to be quite a strong group on one "new" dragon slayer (with no experience), so I just ran around the bar till the commander showed up..

How would you like it if your arrows travelled straight and you had to manually shoot people? That's hard.

LOL I've never played a game and said "omg this is too hard I have to AIM my arrows!" ahaha

I hope they patch this "feature" out soon.

I play Guild Wars on a regular basis. The arrows straight and they arc with a higher arc dependant on range and type of bow. It has one of the best ranged fighting systems I've played in a RPG.

So yes I would love it if arrows travelled straight.
Posted By: Pyrion Re: Why do arrows follow me? - 11/01/10 12:08 AM
Never mind the fact that in Guild Wars you are still wholly dependent on an auto-targeting system which means that if your attack rolls succeed, your arrows still hit the target regardless of their movement.
