Divine Divinity is now available in English at GOG.COM for only 5.99 US Dollars!!

The version includes the latest patch PLUS extra new stuff (extra fixes and features).

“I remember the release of Divine Divinity as if it were yesterday. We had no clue how people would react to the game and weren’t sure that our RPG mix was going to appeal. Then, suddenly we got bombarded with mails and forum reactions from people enjoying the game, and received award after award from the specialized press. It was a very rewarding time, and I look forward to see the reactions from the GOG.com audience.” said Swen Vincke, CEO at Larian Studios. “GOG.com approaching us was also the perfect opportunity for us to address a couple of issues in the original game, and introduce support for higher resolutions.”

I just got this newsletter from GOG.com, as a fan of Divine Divinity I must say I got a little excited :P I'm going to buy it as soon as I get chance :P I haven't searched yet, but is there a list of changes on the net somewhere for me to take a look at? Or would that just be located within a readme/changelog when I purchase the game, I'm very curious to know what the new stuff and fixes were laugh And the reason I mention this here is because it seems a good place to put them. Anyways thanks for the remake you lovely lovely people at Larian :P Can't wait to try this out ^^ Cheers guys laugh

Posted By: Zaypher Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 29/10/09 01:17 PM
i purchased the game near carrefour at my place. i think it's the new version because it comes with the 1.00034A (or something like that) and it comes with one CD for the game and another CD for the manual. Anw, this game is great. Ppl say DIABLO is the best but i'd pick this anytime

Actually it`d be really good to make a 1DVD box and release it for the stores not just sell it on GOG and download...

Nice! I already have the boxed version, but i still bought the game from GOG. For 6 bucks such a classic is a real steal!

The configuration tool does now offer widescreen resolutions at 16:9 ratios, but to get 16:10 or other ratios, you have to edit the "display width" and "display height" values in the "config.div" file located in Divine Divinity's installation directory.

My resolution of 1920 x 1200 requires the following modification:

// display width
width 1920

// display height
height 1200

The good news is that the full map now works in widescreen resolutions!

Well, the updated configuration tool seems to be a bit picky indeed, but 1680*1050 is selectable, so it's not aspect ratio thing only.
Posted By: flixerflax Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 29/10/09 10:05 PM
Are old savegames compatible? I'd put my latest run-through on hold until this came out so I could use my map + widescreen.

Is this the enhanced version from a few posts below that we were told was coming?
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 30/10/09 05:31 AM

Yes

Yes, they are wink

I have tried mine, savegames before patch 1.34 and savegames with patch 1.34.
I didn't run into any problems.

The configtool asks for possible resolutions to the graphics card / monitor through Windows, but it could indeed be that you want to play (and will be able to play) in a resolution that is not listed. We are just showing the "safe" resolutions that are trusted / sure to work.

If you want to try other resolutions, you can indeed manually edit the config.div file (in the root of the installation directory) with a text editor.

The question is: can we get remastered version via patch?
Posted By: allthumbs Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 30/10/09 12:49 PM
1) So - it would seem all magic spells now work?
2) I wonder if it has been formatted to work better w/ multi core processors?
3) Does Freeze on a weapon still ignore resistances/overpower?

Skills:
- Fixed: Spellbooks no longer ignore level requirements
- Fixed: All weapon expertise skills give percentile bonuses instead of static bonuses
- Fixed: True Sight damage is now actually used
- Fixed: Bow and crossbow expertise bonuses are now actually used
- Fixed: Divine Eye removes the fog of war
- Fixed: Deadly Gift's Scorpion Trap is less powerful
- Fixed: Resurrected enemies die after region swap

4) See above ^ Do you mean "True Shot" damage is now actually used instead of "True Sight?"

Also, Larian should have the new fixes listed on GOG as an added incentive to buy - ar buy again, as I did!
Posted By: KnightPT Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 30/10/09 02:09 PM
Definately going to buy it even though i already own it lol.

Its cheap and larian / GOG deserve it.

Is the version that was released on Impulse 30. october the same as the enhanced version released on GOG? The date seems suggestive, but Impulse lists it as version 1.04, and only supporting XP.
Posted By: Marzy Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 31/10/09 01:00 PM
Well i was going to reinstall the game after so many years, but will instead download the remastered version. I am actually quite excited as it's been so long i have completely forgotton the storyline. I do remember some of the brilliant music and look forward to hearing it again.

Did you also try to overwrite the old savegames?
Because i also loaded my old games without problems but as soon i want to overwrite them i crash to desktop.
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 31/10/09 08:38 PM

Pendragon;
The versions should be the same (other than however the different companies package them). At least with the CD/DVD version, the game displays the version number as 1.0034A, which is often shortened to 1.34. If the remastered version lists the version as 1.004A, perhaps Impulse just shortened that a bit, or it could be that 1.04 is the actual version number, and people are still shortening it to 1.4.
They list the minimum requirements as XP, but don't mention one way or another if Vista or Win 7 are compatible or not. The original release works fine in Vista/7, as does GOG's remastered version, so I can't see Impulse doing anything that would break that.

Mogitu;
I used quicksaves when just exploring or clearing areas, but kept unique named saves before/after quests/battles, entering new buildings/areas, etc, so I had the option to reload and try solving a quest a different way, or to make sure I cleared an area before triggering certain cutscenes, etc (in one case defeating a particular boss monster would destroy any remaining opponents in that building, so you would miss out on some experience points if went too far north without clearing the rest).

I started playing at a resolution of 1920x1080 but find it extremely hard to read some of the text, especially on the trading screens. Is there a hidden zoom option or a way to adjust the font size?
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 01/11/09 06:48 AM

There is a third party font enlargement patch for DD, but I don't know if or how well it would work in the remastered version. I can not see them updating the text display system and then hiding the option for it, so unfortunately it doesn't sound like the text size can be adjusted independently of the resolution.

Posted By: flixerflax Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 01/11/09 08:22 AM
The font enlargement works with the new version, but it looks bad. The letters are bigger, but blurry and jagged.

I avoided the save-crash by making new named saves out of my old ones. Worked great. No problems with my old saves.

1920 X 1200 makes several things a little too tiny, not just fonts. For a monitor with that native res, I think either 1440 X 900 or 1680 X 1050 are the best resolutions.

I download the game from Gog. My problem is that the dawn effect doesn't work and goes straight from night to day in an instant. I remember being able to open the config file with my original cdrom game and changing the splotch something or other. However with the Gog installation in am unable to open the config.lcl file to amend this. When i click on open windows does not recognise the file? Any suggestions?

Ps. It's not a file that can be opened with notepad. It looks like A4 white paper with a corner turned down and in the middle of the page is a blue bordered square with six little coloured looking icons, but it cannot be opened.
Posted By: flixerflax Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 01/11/09 08:59 PM
Hello. I didn't have any problems opening the file with notepad, just double clicked. If you don't have notepad assigned to open those file extensions, in Windows XP, a double-click should bring up the dialogue to allow you to select a program to open the file. Splotchproblem still works once you get it opened in notepad.

Raze is right, it is.
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 01/11/09 11:26 PM

If you hold the Shift key down and right click on the config.lcl file, you should get an 'Open With' context menu, which will allow you to select a program to open the file with (uncheck the option to 'always use this program' if you do not want / need to set a permanent file association).

You could open Notepad first, click on the open toolbar icon / menu entry, and browse to the config file (you may need to switch from showing text files to all files in the open dialog window).

If you have a shortcut to notepad on your desktop (which I find handy), you can drag and drop a file on it to open. Alternately, if you place a shortcut to Notepad in your 'Send to' folder, you can right click on any file and use that to open it in Notepad.

One problem I've noticed is that the new version always crashes when I try to use a spider statuette. It happens with all of my old characters; I'll try it with new character, and if it doesn't happen to that one, I'll write it off.

Thankyou Raze and Flixerflax for the answeres. I wasn't aware of how to open certain files but i am now.

Update on achieving higher resolutions: You don't necessarily have to manually edit the .lcl file. If you have a video card that came with software that allows you add custom resolutions, any resolutions that are your card's list will automatically be on the config tool's list of available resolutions. I had used my Nvidia control panel to add many weird resolutions for other modded games, like Diablo II and Planescape:Torment, and those resolutions showed up on Divinity's config tool list of resolutions without me ever having to touch the .lcl file.

Hey guys! I bought this game on a whim from GOG and loved it. I've been on a weeks vacation from my job and really didn't feel like going anywehere. I had a good time just staying home and playing this. I'll definitely buy Beyond Divinity and the new game. I think I'll get the new game on 360 because my 15 year old loves RPG's but prefers consoles. I'm glad I lucked up and found you guys.

So yet again, another publisher asking original buyers of this game to fork out $5.99 for a patch! We have the original game already, we bought it when it first came out, at full price, helping Larian survive in the early days. And how do we get repaid? A patch that we can only access if we buy the game AGAIN!

Way to go Larian!
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 06/03/10 10:33 PM

How is additional content a patch?

Where did they say there would not be any more patches for the original game, and that the only way to get updates will be to get the addon?
Posted By: uk_john Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 15/03/10 10:41 PM
I emailed Larian over a week ago and no reply. This same thing happened with Arx Fatalis. This is the way developers are now - money grabbing and not caring about customers who already bought their games and just rubbing there hands at any new cash from GOG like Ebeneezer Scrooge!

All patches should be made available to previous owners, so the fact that the GOG version has the 1.4A patch means I as as someone who already owns the game should have access to the 1.4A patch too, without having to buy the game again!

Oh and DD II Will only b a secondhand buy from ebay in a year or so - to make sure no more of my hard-earned money goes to Larian.
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 16/03/10 03:01 AM

The download version is not a patch of the disk version.

Exactly how much do you think they are making off the GOG/Impulse version?

Now, how much do you think it would cost to develop and test a patch against all previous game/save versions? How much do think it would cost to hire companies to localize the updated version, and beta test patches for other language versions? (unless of course English speaking people are the only ones who deserve free updates in perpetuity)
I guarantee the original publishers are not going to pony up any money or resources to put out another patch.
Posted By: stubbie Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 16/03/10 08:58 AM
I understand your frustration uk_john and I too at first thought it was unfair that I had the CD retail version and had to purchase a download edition to get the latest version.
I then realised what a jerk I was being.
But please let me explain a couple of points.

First:
the cost involved is a few bucks. I have bought games for $100 and they have been duds.
The cost for this downloaded version is very cheap.
Second:
The digital version is a re-released version. It is not the original that has been patched. For example the original did not have widescreen support. Widescreen was not used by the majority of gamers back then.
This version does however support widescreen.

Perhaps the developers could have spent more time working on a patch for the original retail version.
But considering the years that have passed since DD was first released and to now when the digital version was released, I hardly think Larian could devote resources to a patch. The digital download version helps pay for its development.

If you really feel the need to have what the digital version offers, then just pay the $5 it costs on Impulse.
If not then you can still enjoy the original.
This is a very old game. The fact that it is still being supported in some way I think deserves praise.
And not the whinging you are posting about.

Sorry, I didn't read this whole thread (if I have more time .. when?? biggrin ), but I have found this on internet:
http://www.impulsedriven.com/divdivinity .

My question is:
I have long ago buy Divine Divinity for around 6 euro's I think. That was a patched version,
V. 1.0034A.

Now I see on that link: Version 1.05 !

Is the ONLY difference: "Widescreen" ?
Or are there more things changed?

For example: my V.1.0034A have sometimes some bugs like by Josephina's Staff I must search in a wall! Are these bugs not more in Version 1.05 ???
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 30/03/10 07:04 PM

Widescreen support was the main change in the download version (also on GOG, as well as Impulse).

Use GOG - it's fully DRM-free where Impulse requires you to activate on install (meaning you could lose access to purchased software if Impulse ever shuts down, becomes unavailable or tries to blackmail customers by imposing a regular fee to keep accounts open).
Posted By: Joram Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 06/04/10 08:58 PM
Thanks!

And yes, I see a required program like 'Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0' or something and I have try install it, but it doesn't work (the install) frown ...
And if I look on my PC, that program they mentioned I have already, what a strange thing it is all about impulse-requirements ... And first 'de-install' that kind of program on my pc also didn't work (de-install)... biggrin

I go for GOG.com, they also support "PayPal" to buy a game from them. smile

Damn ! Now I have no reason to don't buy this beautiful game again.. Argh too late ! I paid, download in progress...

But I have a question related to my previous post : patching the game with the language files of a non-english original version is well supported or?

Thanks to lynn for the post.
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 12/06/10 10:00 PM

Changing languages is not officially supported at all. I've only had experience with people trying to convert to English with disk versions of the game, which produced mixed results (depending on the localization in question); see German to English?, for example.

I have it via GOG and I don't regret it I buy Divine Divinity again, because :

it's a famuleus addictive and fantastic great game !! Never played a RPG so many hours like this one ! (I think at least more than 300 hours, but I didn't count them!)

Is there any chance to see this new edition DD and maybe Beyond Divinity in Steam?

That certainly sounds like a patch to me more than a re-master - so I do not feel any guilt at all if I decide to torrent Larian games - if they don't give a shit about original owners of DD that helped keep their business alive, I don't give a shit about pirating their games! And believe you me, with a PC games collection approaching 500 original big box and DVD boxed games, I am not normally a pirate in any way or I would have pirated DD in the first place!

Well, GL finding this (Remastered, probably could get the original) on a torrent site though, I'm not sure anyone that bought this would upload it. Things have to have shock popularity to get significant filesharing.

Can anyone confirm for me that the GOG version has the whole soundtrack? I'm not just talking about download/mp3 form. I want to know if it works everywhere in game. I have been watching a Let's Play of the game on youtube and the soundtrack either has about 10 tracks stripped out of it, or the game is severely bugged. I was thinking about buying this, but if the soundtrack is not working, I'm going to pass. I have seen multiple threads at the GOG forums and at least one in this forum asking about this issue and I have yet to see an answer.

Hi,
me too don't fully understand WHY nobody can find a solution for the 3 soundtracks the GOG-version is missing (by me only 3 missing, not 10) !
If you buy the GOG version you can also donwload all the soundtracks and play them on a media player! But it's indeed really more fantastic to listen to the soundtracks while playing DD !! wink

Buggy version? O no, not at all ! I've recently played from beginning to the final end and don't see/met ANY bug at all!!

Despite some soundtracks missing I can say I truly love playing this beautiful fantastic RPG !! Lots of skills, quests, loot, gear to find (or buy), NPC's (to talk and/or trade with), and many more thrilling adventure moments ... and last but not least: tons of humour !!!
And for that little prize on GOG it's full worth the money !!
You won't regret it ! wink

So, what's up with the Patch 1.4a for the old Retail-Versions (prefer German Version) ? grin
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 16/07/11 05:40 PM

Since there wasn't even a German download version, a patch for the disk version seems unlikely (lack of resources meant there was no English disk version patch). There may possibly be future updates, though (at least for the download version); see Lar's second post in the topic below.

Status update (long overdue)

I had never even heard of GOG. So I made the mistake to buy a boxed version of the game about two months ago, paying more than on GOG and waiting 6 weeks to actually receive it. Now that I am ready to play DD (because I am stuck in DKS due to a bug and have to wait at LEAST until support comes back from their vacation), I read here that I get penalized by Larian: "you bought the boxed version for additional bucks? Tough luck. Throw it into the garbage and cough up another 6 bucks if you want the latest version)". Gee, thanks.

If you do not plan to give a simple patch ("remastered" is way to big a word for the differences posted here) to people with a boxed version, you should at least withdraw the boxed versions from further sale.

Big down - and it isn't about the 6 bucks, but the principle of it. I am more likely to just deinstall DD and forget about it than anything else at this point.
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 19/07/11 12:25 AM

Larian can not arbitrarily withdraw the disk version of the game. They have deals with multiple publishers (a couple of which no longer exist) and distributors, which do not involve any kind of veto on selling the game.

While I sympathize with your situation, there are lots of games that have re-releases, game of the year editions, bundles with various add-ons included, etc, and previous versions are not removed from any store inventories.

Unless you really want the support for higher resolutions, there is nothing wrong with the disk version of the game (as you noted there were only relatively minor fixes and balancing changes in the update, aside from the improved resolution support).
Posted By: Joram Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 19/07/11 05:54 AM
Like Raze said, there's indeed nothing wrong with the disk version !

What's more : so far the GOG version have a problem with the ingame music ! In some aera's the music DON'T change (the no disk version is missing some music tracks or there's a problem with the progrma code)... which is in some way sadly because the music in DD is really fantastic !!

But even without the music DD is a fantastic addictive rpg !!! Can you imagine ? wink

I beg to differ here. The configuration tool of the disk version is very likely to hang (somewhat depending on the check-boxes checked), the game itself messes up the resolutions of my two screens, even after exiting the game. So quite clearly, the new configuration tool seems to be dearly needed on modern systems.

So I just tried to boot up my super-old disc copy, and it's all scratched to hell and won't install properly. Rather than wallow in pity, I stumbled on the GOG deal from the gamefaq.com boards...I'm stoked! I always wanted to try a ranger (that never worked because the masteries were borked!). Nice to see that fixed, but a nerf to Steel Scorpions? Geez, it was so fun having the little guy pwn bosses for me!

Still, DD is the best ARPG I've ever played...my only tweak would be have a baseline HP/MP regen so you don't need to rely on pots between combat, and a pure caster would at least be somewhat possible (I've beaten it as a trap/melee Survivor, melee Warrior, and summoner Wizard...summons are awesome once you unlock them...worth the try!). I love the story and the combat, though the gear tends to suck from someone who's played Diablo II for years!

True Shot was fixed in the original download release (1.004a), but unfortunately broken again in the update (see 1.005a problem). Even without True Shot, though, archery is very effective, especially combined with Poison Weapon.

Someone said DD was listed on Steam's upcoming games registry (here), so if it is getting a new release, maybe they managed to do another update (the desire to do so mentioned more than a year ago in a status update topic). Or there could be a different reason to release it on Steam now when it wasn't when D2:ED and DKS were added.

Depending on how scratched your disks are it might still be possible to recover the files and do a manual install (though you may want the download version anyway for the widescreen and higher resolution support).

I purchased DD also, I already had it in the past, but it still one of my most favourite games ever. I liked it more than BD and Divinity II (tried it several times, but couldn't get into it).

Still DD is one of the best RPG's made and could be submitted to the list along with Baldur's Gate I & II (+ expansions) and Fallout 1 & 2.

Hopefully we will see more games coming back like DD. smile

Good post HHawk, I like DD too but I allow myself to disagree with you regarding comparisons. For me DD is that game which I expected to see from Diablo II instead of what was actually released by Blizzard in 2000. I don't like modern games (like Divinity II) because they have lost the charm of classics. BD is a good game but it is secondary to DD and a little bit late. As before, the main drawback of DD is the lack of multiplayer. But in any case DD is a great game even now.

I love DD, but I disagree that Divinity II has lost the charm (of classics) ... but that's me ... for a "modern" game Divinity II(the Dragon Knight Saga) has imo many charm !!
I like DKS very much, so much that I can't stop playing this game ... :hihi:
BUT ... IF I darf to start playing DD I even can't stop ... playing

Sorry for the necro-post but this appears to be as good a place as any to make my first post.

I recently purchased Divine Divinity from GoG and have been scouring the Internet looking for additional insight into ways to interact with the game. Pointers to any additional resources would be appreciated. Once I've finally finished playing the game through once with no "help", I would like to "power up" a new character and just go exploring.

I have played the FATE Series of games for many years and they are highly modifiable. I was hoping that DD was as well but so far it doesn't look like it is. I am also highly addicted to the Masters of Orion II game for the PC but was a bit disappointed in the Mac conversion as it just doesn't seem to play the same.

I am involved in a few other gaming sites an hope that I find as congenial an atmosphere in here as I have found in others.

There have been no mods, other than a font enlargement patch. There is a save editor and a couple item editors, though (see Kiya's site).

Thanks, I found that site shortly after I posted above. She has some really good images of the different maps and I was able to download the editors. Unfortunately, they won't work on my computer ... I'm playing the game on a Mac. Guess if I want to edit anything I will have to switch to a PC.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. It has even eaten up my Skyrim time!

I have found a very useful walkthrough at GameFAQs. Does anyone recognize the author, JaggedJim?

Just finished Dragon Commander, should I wait till after D:OS is out to play that so I can play them in chronological order? Or do they not fit together tight enough for it to matter?
Posted By: Raze Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 28/05/14 01:40 AM

D:OS is connected to the backstory of DD, but the games themselves are set a couple hundred years apart, so it shouldn't matter either way.
Posted By: Imryll Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 15/11/15 10:45 PM
In the past I've played Divine Divinity using a copy downloaded from GOG. However, since receiving a Steam copy as part of my D:OS order, I'm wondering whether there is currently any version difference which would make it advantageous to download the Steam version. If not, I'll probably use the GOG copy for ease of playing offline.

Thanks for any insights.

The Steam and GOG versions are the same, other than the install methods (I assume the full GOG installer has been updated with the 1.0062 music fix by now). There is nothing preventing you from running the Steam version offline, and you can create a shortcut directly to the executable. That said, if you still have the GOG installer, there isn't much reason to download the Steam version instead.
Posted By: Imryll Re: A touch of Divinity at GOG.COM ! - 16/11/15 01:18 PM
Many thanks for clarifying the options, Raze. It's somewhat amusing that a game that I've now received twice as a bonus for buying something else is now on my early-install list for a new PC. DD just has a sprightliness to it that I want at my fingertips. smile
