i get a "wrong cd volume for cd labelled bey_div" or something to like that, near the ending of the installation. it happens on disc2 at "thunder.wav". i tried it on 4 different cd drives on two different computers. any clues? no antivirus software running, all other programs closed. crappy copy protection or just defective media?

I put CD 1 in then again and then proceeded - error message came again - I put CD 2 in then and clicked on "proceed".

Please, try this out. I could install regardless of this error message.

Edit: Forget what I wrote - you have 3 CD in your version, correct? The German one only had 2 - so I could swap between the 2 of them.

no, the english/us version has only 2 discs also. i finally got the game to install by following what you wrote. i'm pretty sure all this nonsense is caused by the copy protection. i'm still a bit worried that i encounter problems later on in the game. i'm debating whether to return it or not.

anybody know if larian technical staff visit these boards or do we customers have to solve tech problems ourselves?

Larian pretty much reads every post on the boards. They reply quite alot too. I don't think you should have problems with the game if you installed the latest patch though...

idd, We read the forum, I was just waiting to answer because what Kiya said is indeed the solution to this problem.

It is not a protection issue, instead it's an installation software/ Windows issue. Windows doesn't like it when the cd is removed where the program he's running is stored. It doesn't happen a lot, but on some pc's it causes this error.

Greetings

thanks for the confirmation. i wanted to hear from a larian tech that the method described was a safe workaround and the game would be fully installed.

An another good way to solve this problem is to copy the installation files (the exe on cd1 and the 2 files from cd2) on your hard disk and run the installation from your HD

You can do that?! But wait... then what's the point of the copy protection?

the copy protection is just when you start the game, he check the validity of your CD

You need to have the second CD in the drive when playing, not when installing.

We did a bit of testing yesterday on this issue and it seems like it's a genuine windows problem.

We started with a clean windows xp home system where we got the problem.
After updating windows with sp1 and all the latest hot fixes, we didn't get the problem anymore.

So this might solve it also <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
