Hello,

I'm trying to create a character that is more reliant on magic then melee or ranged.

I've been pumpin up int to increase my magic damage.

However, the damage of my spells does not seem to increase.

Is this normal? Does +dmg only occur after a certain treshold?
Is the only way to increase magic damage from a spell to obtain more skill points for that spell?

I think Intelligence only increases the rate of your mana regeneration, and the magical damage of magical melee weapons. You'll want to invest points into the skill Destruction at level 10, that increases your spell damage by 18% at first Rank, up to 50% at the 5th rank.

"However, the damage of my spells does not seem to increase."

Have you checked your combat log?

"I think Intelligence only increases the rate of your mana regeneration, and the magical damage of magical melee weapons."

And Intelligence also creates additional magical damage for bows.

You need to look at

- intelligence
- the appropriate skills in the skills screen
- another thing which I don't know how to translate into English; in German it is called kind of "force of will" or "power of will".

"Indomitable Will".

Which has nothing to do with spell damage, BTW. Indomitable Will helps you resist certain spell effects.

INT has an immediate effect on all magic damage, including spells and weapons. It may be that you are fighting enemies above your level, and they take less damage due to level difference. If you were fighting enemies of the same level as you, you would see noticeably higher damage numbers.

To clarify, the description of the spell, where it gives the damage numbers, will not change no matter how much intell you have. But the combat log will show you the increase in damage that occurs with an increase in intell.

I am now level 7, have 9 int and should be doing 14dmg with my spell.
But I only do 13 dmg against a lvl 7 skeleton.
I think I better go for a magig/melee hybrid, instead of full caster.
The game seems to favor melee over magic and ranged.

With listed damages for spells or weapons, there is still the target's resistances and level to take into account when calculating the actual damage done.

I find playing a (pure) Warrior type more difficult than playing a Ranger and/or Mage. wink

I think starting with a ranged form of attack is easiest .. It helps with groups of enemies at the beginning cause you can't really 'tank' when you start out.
