My ranger character (Nanaloma) is in hell (OK, Hall of Echos) and in need of help. So far in the Hall, I've breezed through but there is one fight where I'm just overwhelmed: the one with (oh dear, here comes my memory problems) the necromancer from the battle tower and his soul-forged demon. Just too many to handle at one time and nowhere to hide. Level 32, powerful bow, ranger strength etc 5+, excellent pet, demon = 3, undead (or whatever it is) = 3.

Any ideas how to handle this particular fight? I'm getting a headache thinking of how many times I've reloaded so far. aargh

If I remember that fight (and my memory is hopeless) I think I may have spent an awful lot of time running around and dodging attacks while I healed: I'm not great at combat tactics and "try not to get hit... too often" is my usual means of survival. smirk Sorry I don't have anything more substantial to offer.

Oh well, that's mainly what I was doing hoping my creatures would take out a few of the summons but the lord of the tower can zoom attack and hit me even mid jump and that takes half of my health so it was a losing effort. It was my first play through - usually I don't even get that far the first time before I decide I royally screwed up the build and missed too many eps. The second run was built as a warrior and enemies that were tough as a ranger are cut down like pudding with a sword.

I guess a ranger's not much good if they aren't agile enough to keep out of the way! I forget exactly what build I'd ended up with now, probably some sort of badly-planned mix-and-match in my case. I know I did often swap between a sword and a bow.

In my case there's a fine line between a challenge and a chore, and given that I generally play for the story and adventure rather than combat prowess, I have no qualms about using god-mode (I think the Developer's Cut has one...) to get through awkward gnarly bits.

I have some patience for battles - generally if I try enough things, something works but my pet peeve are timed stunts (like the moving platform thing that after a lot of frustration, a chest appears for a short time or the disappearing platforms). To me, that's twitch stuff and my old, arthritic fingers don't twitch well smile .

Oh God yeah. I'm absolutely hopeless at jumping puzzles as my character has almost as little agility as I do IRL, and any timed tasks, missions or quests are right down there with escort quests in terms of being generally well-received! Possibly why the Original Sins are so well-received as it's about tactics rather than twitch-gaming; personally it's a little too far in the opposite direction for my tastes, but I can see the attraction.

IIRC, in D2:DC there is only some random loot in the chest that appears briefly after the lever and timed platform jumps. It is potentially nice loot, but not worth worrying about if you cann't get the timing and drop down fast enough to open it.

I didn't find the necromancer fight too hard as a ranger. I needed to keep my distance from the demon and necromancer, and not stand still very long, but with my creature in the thick of battle I whittled down the memory eaters and summons relatively easily, then went after the bosses.
Way of the Ranger would have helped (increasing the damage of normal attacks and the effective range of Splitting Arrows), but I didn't know it at the time (don't usually bother with temporary boost skills, but I eventually maxed that one).
