My son plays a warrior and just got a weapon upgrade yesterday, and even though he went from a lvl 4 unique str based sword to a lvl 6 epic str based mace he hits for a lot less it seems. The higher lvl mace has a low magic damage component as well but the rest of the stats are higher.

Do weapons that have magic and physical damage components hit for less than straight physical? Or is there something else we are missing

Thanks.

Its an illusion sort of...imagine dice rolls...you have a weapon that deals 1d10(normal), and another that deals 1d6(normal) and 1d6(magic)... The 2d6 is clearly an upgrade because you have a chance for 2 more damage over the 1d10..but for the most part it will seem about the same until you deal with resistences...in a fight where a creature takes 50% more from the magic element you have a chance to upto 15 damage. But its a double edge sword, no pun intended, cause if they have resistance to your damge you lose some.

No, it's a TWO level difference. This is not the old AD&D games. It's DOS2. If you're equally proficient in both, there's no way a weapon two level highers could possibly do less damage.

It's hard to tell why. But the stats you see in weapon tooltip vary depending on which party member you're selecting. You have to make sure that the right person is equipping the weapon, and they have the right abilities for it (one-handed, two-handed, and so on).

Oh i was using d&d as an example that easier to understand than the actual stats im messing with in the Divinity engine 2...

In the games engine damage in the weaponstat is treated exactly as i described with the dice...
A very easy way for you to test this yourself is create a stat-weaponstat and assign 1-6 as the damage for each element then attach those boost to a sword via a skill or creating your own item...attack any creature of even level with varied resistences theres a few you can use in the templete. Youll very quickly notice it indeed takes resistences into account and the damage is indeed a random roll on the set value.
