I purchased the first one from the Teller of Secrets. It says something like A bloodied gift from the stars has been upsetting the ghosts in the Black Cove.

I went there again and found nothing. What did I just buy... what are these secrets supposed to do?

Secrets = chests and (blood or star) stones.

With high enough perception (rule of thumb: Cyseal 9, Luculla 12, Phantom 14) youï½´ll find them all anyway, if you try.

And the hint quoted is clear enough - the bloodstone of Pontius, which you have already.

There are 3 types of secrets from the teller or secrets.

Murdane Secrets are secret chests and locations.

Secrets of Stars are locations of blodstones or starstones.

And Secrets of Trade are locations of skillbooks. It may seem trivial, but couple of skillbooks are unique and only found this way. Although usually it should be easy to spot those skillbooks since they are all pre-placed on the ground.

Normally it is impossible to miss the skillbooks, just following the main (mandatory) quests?

Ooops, correction - there is one very well protected spellbook on an absolute and hard to reach side track, sorry.
