Cross-play: Hosting or Joining a Game

Cross-play allows you to play BG3 with your friends - no matter the system they use!

Enabling Cross-Play
In the main menu, select Options and under the Gameplay tab, scroll down to find Allow Cross-play and click to enable.

** Note that you must have linked your game to your Larian account already!

Once Cross-Play has been enabled, you’ll want to make sure that your friends have been added to your Friends List via their Larian account name. For more details on managing your Friends List, click here.

Creating a Cross-Play Lobby

Navigate to the Main Menu and click on Multiplayer to open the multiplayer menu. From the tabs section on the top of the screen, select Cross-Play and then choose Create.

From here, you can customize your Lobby settings on the right-hand side and add in your friends by clicking on the + icons. Remember, all your friends must have cross-play enabled as well and accept your invite.

Once your friends have accepted the invite, you will see them displayed as “In Party” in the Friends List menu or have the title “Ready” under their picture on the Lobby menu.
Once everyone is ready, click Launch.

Joining a Cross-Play Lobby

Navigate to the Main Menu and click on Multiplayer to open the multiplayer menu. From the tabs section on the top of the screen, select Cross-Play and then choose the lobby from the list on the left. If you receive an invite from a friend while you are playing the game, you can also click on that to be taken directly to the Cross-play lobby menu.

Inviting Friends to a Save Game

If you’d like to cross-play with your friends on a campaign you’ve already started, you can do so with a few easy steps!

From the main menu, select Load Game to bring yourself to the saved games menu. Select the saved game you’d like to cross-play, and select Enable CrossPlay. Then load the save game.

Once in the game, navigate to Multiplayer and invite your friend! Remember, first they must have cross-play enabled in their settings as well.

Cross-Play with Mods

You are more than welcome to use mods while using cross-play, however remember that everyone in the lobby must have the exact same mods and mod version installed. No more, no less! If you are playing with mods, you will be able to enable and disable what you need via the mod verification window when launching the cross-play game.

Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing troubles connecting with your friends, we suggest the following:

- Ensure that all players have Cross Play enabled via the Multiplayer Menu

- If using mods, try hosting or joining a game without mods installed to see if you run into the same issue.

- For general multiplayer connectivity issues, check out our FAQ here
