Baldur's Gate 3

Official Mod Support

You now have another way to mod your Baldur’s Gate 3 saves, with Patch 7 introducing our very own in-game Mod Manager and modding Toolkit, which can be downloaded on Steam for PC players!

With this new and supported way to create and install mods, you should see improvements in compatibility and accessibility, and can rest more assured that your supported mods work wherever you’re playing Baldur's Gate 3, which will include consoles a little down the line.

Understanding Modded Cross-Saves

While we’re still working on bringing cross-play to Baldur’s Gate 3 in a future update, there are some important things to keep in mind if you intend to mod your game and play your save across different platforms (cross-saves).

As we prepare to release Patch 7 on console, cross-saves will not be compatible, as your PC save will be on a different game version. Once Patch 7 is released on console, we recommend ensuring that the mods you opt to install are available on console if you intend to play across both PC and console.

Common Mod Troubleshooting Questions

How do I make sure my mods are up-to-date?

If a mod needs to be updated, you’ll see an "Update" button appear, and will be able to update the mod directly from the in-game interface. This can be done through the Installed tab of the Mod Manager.

Why isn’t my game loading when trying to play Multiplayer with modded saves?

If you are playing Multiplayer with mods, both you and your party will need to have the exact same mods installed, and they must be on the same version. Ensure your mods are on the same version by checking if the mod shows an “Update” button from the Installed tab of the Mod Manager.

How can I install the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit to make my own mod on console or Mac?

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is only available for PC as it requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. You’ll need 160GB of space available to install the Toolkit.

You can install the Toolkit for PC on Steam by clicking here.

The recommended specs are:

OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Processor: Intel i7 8700K / AMD r5 3600
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia 2060 Super / AMD RX 5700 XT (8GB+ of VRAM)

Creating Your Own Mods

All this modding talk got you eager to have a go at creating your own?

Patch 7 will introduce our Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit, which is a separate application you’ll be able to download for free from Steam if you are on a PC with a Windows operating system.

You’ll need a mod.io and Larian account to set up, but once you’re in and launch the application, you can tinker around with the software and create a new mod!

We have plenty of guides to help you get set up, including our Getting Started guide, which you can use to locate other guides that cover general Editor functionality; character customisation, including how to add hair and beards; general asset creation; new equipment; and scripting.

You’ll need 160GB of space available to install the Toolkit. The Toolkit will not be available on console platforms or Mac, and requires a 64-bit processor and operating system.
